What is a compound? | Pure substance that can be broken down chemically. |
What is a mixture? | Blend of 2 or more kinds of matter, each of which retains its own identity and properties |
What is a chemical change? | A change in which one or more substances are continued into different substances. EX: carbon + oxygen = carbon dioxide |
What is a physical change? | A change in a substance that doesn't involve a change in the identity of the substance. EX: melting a material |
Properties of metals? | S and D blocks, Alkali metals can form +1 ions |
Properties of nonmetals? | Most reactive non-metals are highest |
Properties of noble gasses? | Non-reactive |
What are intensive properties? | Don't depend on the amount of matter present EX: melting point, boiling point, density, ability to conduct and transfer energy as heat. |
What are extensive properties? | Depends on the amount of matter present EX: mass, volume, and the amount of energy in a substance |
