Question | Answer |
What is the Bohr Model? | The Bohr model describes how the atoms were believes to have specific orbits around the nucleus. |
What is the Emission Spectra? | The Emission Spectra is the a spectrum of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by a substance. |
Explain why elements produce their own colors characteristic colors when the emit photons. | They can release energy only equal to difference of the energy level their electrons can jump so, as arrangement of electrons is different in different elements so is the difference in frequencies they emit, hence the different colors. |
Why are the bright - line emission spectra of elements unique? | Each element produces a unique bright line spectra because no two elements have the same number of electrons hence when the electron moves from a higher level to a lower level, it produces a unique light frequency. |
How does the Bohr model explain the bright line spectra of hydrogen? | Since not two elements have the same number of electrons, as an energized electron moves from a higher level to a lower level, it produces a photon (visible light). |
How do the energy transitions of the hydrogen atom explain why some emission spectra are located in the ultraviolet, visible, or infrared? | If an electron only moves a little bit (from a high energy level to a lower energy level) it will produce ultraviolet light. A "Medium" ammount = visible. "A Lot" = infrared. |
