Question | Answer |
Volume and temp formula | v1/t1 = v2/t2 |
Pressure and volume formula | p1v1=p2v2 |
Pressure and temp formula | p1/t1=p2/t2 |
Combined Gas Law | p1v1/t1 = p2v2/t2 |
Diffuse | when one gas mixes with another |
Effuse | when gas escapes from container into the air |
Ideal gas law | pv = nRT |
Manometer: Add if | tube side's mercury is higher. |
Manometer: Subtract if | Ball's side mercury is higher |
Measure of temp is equal to | measure of kinetic energy |
Kinetic energy is | the measure of momentum |
Basis of C temp scale | 0 degrees water freeze 100 degrees water boils |
When heated, particles dont "expand" themselves... they | move faster and collide w/ each other which results in more space in between the particles |
When cooled particles.... | slow down and collide less so they take up less space |
Why do you need absolute temp scale to solve gas problems? | By using celsius you can come up with a negative volume or pressure which is not possible, so using Kelvins is required. |
Kinetic Molecular Theory: Solid | vibrate and move against each other, not much energy |
Kinetic Molecular Theory: liquid | move around each other, more energy |
Kinetic Molecular Theory: Gas | move freely away from each other. |
When temp increases | volume increases |
when pressure increases | temp increases and volume decreases |
faster the particles move.... | the more thermal energy from fast moving particles which makes more pressure |
If you double pressure | volume is halved |
if you double temp | pressure is doubled |
if you double volume | you double temp |
Doubling only works when | you are measuring in Kelvins |
