Question | Answer |
Law of Conservation of Mass | A law that states that matter can not be created or destroyed, only changed |
Physical Change | A change from one state (solid or liquid or gas) to another without a change in chemical composition. |
Chemical Change | Any process determined by the atomic and molecular composition and structure of the substances involved. |
Element | A substance that cannot be broken down by chemical means. |
Chemical Formula | A way of expressing information about the atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound. |
Element (diatomic) molecule | Diatomic molecules are molecules composed only of two atoms. |
Compound Molecule | A molecule with two or more elements |
Chemical Equation | A chemical equation is the symbolic representation of a chemical reaction |
Chemical Reaction | A chemical reaction is a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another. |
Reactants | The side of a chemical equation that is being combined |
Products | The result of the reactant |
Coefficient | The number that tells you how many molecules there are |
Subscript | The small number that tells you how many atoms are one specific element of a molecule |
Ionic Compound | A chemical compound in which ions are held together in a lattice structure by ionic bonds. |
Covalent Compound | A covalent bond is a form of chemical bonding that is characterized by the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms |
Metallic Compound | A metallic compound is a compound that contains one or more metal elements. |
Synthesis | Chemical synthesis is purposeful execution of chemical reactions to get a product, or several products. |
Decomposition | Chemical decomposition, analysis or breakdown is the separation of a chemical compound into elements or simpler compounds. |
Single Replacement | A single-displacement reaction, also called single-replacement reaction, is a type of oxidation-reduction chemical reaction when an element or ion moves out of one compound and into another. |
Double Replacement | A double replacement reaction is a chemical reaction where two reactant ionic compounds exchange ions to form two new product compounds with the same ions. |
