Question
Answer
Algebra   The branch of mathematics that involves expressions with variables.
🗑
Algebraic Expression   A combination of variables, numbers, and at least one operation.
🗑
Arithmetic Sequence   A sequence in which each term is found by adding the same number to the previous term.
🗑
Base   In a power, the number used as a factor. In 10^3, the base is 10. That is, 10^3 = 10 × 10 × 10.
🗑
Coefficient   The numerical factor of a term that contains a variable.
🗑
Defining The Variable   Choosing a variable to represent an unknown value in a problem, and using it to write an expression or equation to solve the problem.
🗑
Domain   The set of input values for a function.
🗑
Equation   A mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign, =.
🗑
Equivalent Expressions   Expressions that have the same value.
🗑
Evaluate   To find the value of an expression.
🗑
Exponent   In a power, the number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor. In 53, the exponent is 3. That is, 53 = 5 × 5 × 5.
🗑
Factors   Two or more numbers that are multiplied together to form a product.
🗑
Function   A relation in which each element of the input is paired with exactly one element of the output according to a specified rule.
🗑
Function Rule   The operation performed on the input of a function.
🗑
Numerical Expression   A combination of numbers and operations.
🗑
Order of Operations   The rules to follow when more than one operation is used in a numerical expression.
🗑
Perfect Squares   Numbers with square roots that are whole numbers. 25 is a perfect square because the square root of 25 is 5.
🗑
Powers   Numbers expressed using exponents. The power 3^2 is read three to the second power, or three squared.
🗑
Radical Sign   The symbol used to indicate a nonnegative square root, √.
🗑
Range   The set of output values for a function.
🗑
Sequence   A list of numbers in a certain order, such as 0, 1, 2, 3, or 2, 4, 6, 8.
🗑
Solution   A value for the variable that makes an equation true. The solution of 12 = x + 7 is 5.
🗑
Square   The product of a number and itself. 36 is the square of 6.
🗑
Square Root   One of the two equal factors of a number. The square root of 9 is 3.
🗑
Term   Each number in a sequence.
🗑
Variable   A placeholder, usually a letter, used to represent an unspecified value in mathematical expressions or sentences. In 3 + a = 6, a is a variable.
