Question
Answer
Rows   Side to side (Period)
🗑
Column   Up and Down (Groups, Families)
🗑
Metals   Generally Shiny, solid at room temperature except Mercury which is a liquid, good conductors of heat and electricity, malleable, ductile.
🗑
Group 1   Alkali Metal. Softer than most other metals, the most reactive, only found as compounds with other elements.
🗑
Group 2   Alkaline Earth Metals. Chemically reactive and are not found as often.
🗑
Groups 3-12   Transitional Metals. They are the most familiar because they occur in nature.
🗑
Non -Metals   Often gases. Poor conductors of heat and electricity. Often react with metals and pick up electrons. Most reactive are Halogens
🗑
Nobel Gases   Group 18, the most stable, react and combine easily with other substances.
🗑
Metalloids   Have properties of both metals and nonmetals
🗑
Stability   Stable elements are unreactive
🗑
Order of Stability   -full outer shell -full sublevel -half-full sublevel -one electron in the outer shell or seven electrons in the outer shell Note: Atoms react to become more stable than before.
🗑
Lewis dot diagram   Begin by writing down the element symbol Write the electron configuration Each side of the element represents an outer orbital. fill in the dots according to the different orbitals.
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
