---|---|---|---|---|---|
mass | amount of matter in an object
🗑
weight | depends on the amount of gravity pulling on an object
🗑
volume | amount of space an object takes up
🗑
heating matter makes it (expand, condense) | expand- the particles are spreading apart
🗑
cooling matter makes it (expand, condense) | condense (get smaller) because the particles are getting closer together
🗑
density | how much matter there is in some amount of space
🗑
formula for finding density | mass divided by volume
🗑
mass is measured in these units | grams, kilograms
🗑
volume is measured in these units | units cubed (cm^3, mm^3, etc.) or mL
🗑
what method do you use to find the volume of an unusally shaped object | displacement method= put ceratin amount of water in graduated cylinder, drop object in, determine new water level. The difference between the water levels is the volume of the object
🗑
what do you do to find the mass of 50mL of water? | determine mass of empty graduated cylinder, add 50mL of water, find the mass of the cylinder with the water. Subtract the mass of the empty graduated cylinder. This leaves you with mass of water only.
🗑
Can two items with the same volume have different masses? explain | yes- one object could be very condensed (dense) and have a greater mass- the other could be less condensed (dense) and have less mass
