Question
Answer
Know the 5 steps for lighting a Bunsen Burner. (write them over and over again to help you remember)   1. close air and gas valves 2. open gas 1 turn and air 1/4 turn 3. turn on gas at table (90 degrees=off) 4. light with flint striker 5. adjust oxygen valve until flame is blue
🗑
What do you need to remember when turning on the sink?   turn it on slowly while holding the hose. After it is under control, then put the container under it to be filled.
🗑
What should you remember when using a thermometer?   -never shake it down -never stir with it -don't touch the bottom of container
🗑
What are the 6 steps for cleaning up the lab? (write them over and over again to help you remember)   1. turn everything off 2. dispose of chemicals as directed 3. wash all equipment and put it on tray as found 4. wipe down your table 5. wash your hands 6. put your glasses/goggles away

🗑
Define matter:   Anything that has mass and takes up space
🗑
What eye covering do we use in chemistry and why?   Goggles are used to prevent chemicals from entering eyes.
🗑
True or False: I can eat food in lab.   False.
🗑
True or False: We always waft chemicals to smell them.   True
🗑
What does waft mean?   Move the scent to your nose by waving your hand
🗑
What is the first thing to do if anything is spilled, broken, or otherwise goes wrong in lab?   Call for the teacher
🗑
What two ways do we use to heat substances?   1. A water bath: Test tube is placed in beaker of water held above Bunsen burner flame on ring stand. 2. Using a test tube holder, move test tube back and forth over flame, pointed away from all people.
🗑
How do we transfer a liquid?   Pour lip to lip
🗑
What if the liquid is an acid?   Pour down a stirring rod, acid into water
🗑
What do we use to measure liquids?   A graduated cylinder
🗑
How do we read a graduated cylinder?   We read to the meniscus (dip in the liquid)at eye level.
🗑
How do you measure mass?   Mass is measured with a balance
🗑
Describe how to measure a given mass of a chemical using weighing paper.   1. Find mass of the weighing paper(1.1 g) 2. Add the desired mass of chemical (2.3) 3. Set balance to the sum (1.1 + 2.3 = 3.4) 4. Add chemical slowly to weighing paper until it balances.
🗑
How do you prepare a balance for use?   1. Make certain there is no chemical on weighing pan. 2. Move all sliders to zero. 3. Adjust with knob until pointer is in center (Zeroing)

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
