estimate | A number close to an amount that tells about how much or how many. We can estimate $9.86 to be $10

divisor | The number by which a number is being divided. 10 / 2 = 5; 2 is the divisor

dividend | The number that is divided in a division problem. 10/2 = 5; 10 is the dividend

quotient | The answer in a division problem. 10/2 = 5; 5 is the quotient

remainder | The number that is left over when a dividend cannot be divided equally. 10/3 = 3 R 1; 1 is the remainder

inverse | An operation that checks the answer to another operation, the oppositie operation. Division and multiplication are inverse operations. Addition and subtraction are inverse operations.

sum | The answer to an addition problem. 4 + 7 = 11; 11 is the sum

decimal point | This separates the place values. 23.45; the . between the 3 and the 4 is the decimal point.

tenths | The place value one place to the right of the ones place.

align | Line up. You must align, or line up the decimal points when adding or subtracting decimals.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
