---|---|---|---|---|---|
axes | The horizontal and vertical lines that are used to represent the variable quantities on a graph.
🗑
coordinates | Numbers that represent the location of a point on a graph. For example, if a point is 3 units to the right and 7 units up from the origin, its coordinates are (3,7).
🗑
line graph | A graph in which points are connected with line segments.
🗑
ordered pair | A pair of numbers that represent the coordinates of a point, with the horizontal coordinate of the point written first. For example, the point with horizontal coordinate “3” and vertical coordinate “7” is represented by the ordered pair (3,7).
🗑
origin | The point where the axes of a graph meet. The origin of a graph is usually the “0” point for each axis.
🗑
variable | A quantity that varies, or changes. For example, in a problem about the sizes of buildings, the height and width of the buildings would be variables.
🗑
independent variable | The variable which is graphed on the "X" axis. This term is used in math.
🗑
manipulated variable | The variable which is graphed on the "X" axis. This term is used in science.
🗑
dependent variable | The variable which is graphed on the "Y" axis. This term is used in math.
🗑
