Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Question
Answer
What happens on the anode side?   hydrogen diffuses and dissociates into protons and electrons
🗑
What happens to the hydrogen proton?   to go the cathode
🗑
What happen to the hydrogen electron?   forced to travel in an external circuit
🗑
What is happening on the cathode side?   oxygen molecules react with the electrons (which have traveled through the external circuit) and protons to form water.
🗑
What is the waste product?   water vapor
🗑
First: What happens?   hydrogen fuel goes to the anode. Oxygen from air go to the cathode
🗑
Second: What happens?   at the anode, hydrogen splits into positive hydrogen ions (protons) and negatively charged electrons
🗑
Third: What happens?   the membrane allows only the positively charged ions to pass through it to the cathode. The negatively charged electrons must travel along an external circuit in the cathode, creating an electrical current
🗑
Fourth: What happens?   at the cathode, the electrons and positively charged hydrogen ions combine with oxygen to form water.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
