Knowing the bonds

        Help!

Term
Definition
Compound   When 1 or more atoms are bonded together
🗑
Molecule   A compound that has covalent bonds
🗑
Formula Unit   A compound that has ionic bonds
🗑
Ionic Bonds   -There is a transfer of electrons -Metal + Nonmetal (ex: NaCl)
🗑
Covalent Bonds   -Atoms share electrons -Two NONmetals (H20)
🗑
Chemical Formula   Notation using symbols and numbers to represent the composition of a substance.
🗑
Molecular Formula   Shows the number and kinds of atoms actually present
🗑
Empirical Formula   Gives the simplest ratio between atoms.
🗑
Coefficients   Used to show the presence of multiple compounds
🗑
Formula Unit   Ionic, always REDUCE to empirical ex: Na2Cl2 --> NaCl
🗑
Diatomic Molecules   elements that always exist as a molecule (the magic 7)
🗑
Size/Radius   Atomic radius increases as you move from right to left through a period. -Nuclear charge increases which draws in the outer electrons
🗑
Shielding   inner electrons block the nuclear charge toward the outer shell electrons.
🗑
Electronegativity   The atoms's ability to pull an electron towards itself when bonded.
🗑
Ionization Energy   The amount of energy required to pull an electron off.
🗑
Mono   1
🗑
Di   2

Tri   3

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
