Understanding and knowing the terms used in math

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.

Decimal   A number with one or more places to the right of a decimal point

Whole Number   a number without fractions; an integer

Sum   What the answer to an addition problem is called

Difference   What the answer to a subtraction problem is called

Value   The place of a digit tells you the value, such as a whole number or decimal

Standard Form   The number with commas Example: 456,759

Expanded Form   The way to write a number that shows the place value of each digit. Example: The expanded form of 456,759 is 400,000 + 50,000 + 6,000 + 700 + 50 + 9

Word Form   The written form of a number

Dividend   The number to be divided goes inside

Divisor   The number used to divide another number goes outside

Quotient   The answer to a division problem goes on top

To hide a column, click on the column name.
