Term
Definition
base   A number/variable to be raised to a power/exponent. Ex. 3 is the base in the power 6^3
🗑
coefficient   The number (numerical factor) in front of a variable in an algebraic term.
🗑
combining like terms   A mathematical process used to simplify an expression by using operators to unite like terms.
🗑
constant   A term that contains only a number in an algebraic expression.
🗑
cubed number   A number raised to the third power. Ex. 2^3= 2 x 2 x 2 = 8
🗑
exponent   A number that indicates the number of times the base appears as a factor. Ex. 3 is the exponent in 2^3; 2^3 = 2 x 2 x 2 (there are 3 twos being multiplied).
🗑
expression   A mathematical phrase containing numbers, variables, and at least one operation.
🗑
factor   Numbers that are multiplied to get a given number. Ex. 1, 2, 3, and 6 are all factors of 6
🗑
like terms   Terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power; only the coefficients are different.
🗑
operator   A symbol that shows an operation.
🗑
order of operations   Order mathematical operations should be completed. GEMA: Grouping symbols, Exponential operations, Multiplicative operations, Additive operations.
🗑
product   The result when two numbers are multiplied.
🗑
squared number   A number raised to the second power. Ex. 5^2= 5 x 5 = 25
🗑
terms   Any part of an expression written as a product or quotient; they are separated by the additive operations.
🗑
variable   A symbol used to represent a number. This variable can change or take on different values.
🗑
Evaluate   Find the value of by substituting a value in place of the variable(s) and then simplify.
🗑
Simplify   Writing an expression in the most compact way without changing the value.
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
