Question
Answer
What is Newton's First Law?   An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
🗑
According to Newton’s First Law of Motion, why would a student on roller skates eventually stop moving?   Friction will stop the student on roller skates.
🗑
What is inertia?   It is resistance to a change in motion. More massive objects have more inertia.
🗑
Why do roller coasters need to have a lap bar or shoulder bar?   So the person riding the roller coaster doesn't fly out of the ride and stays seated.
🗑
Which boxes will move? Which boxes will not move?   The boxes that will move are box 1, box 2, and box 3. The box that won’t move is box 4.
🗑
Show the net force calculation for each box.   Box 1: 8N + 0N = 8N Box 2: 5N - 2N = 3N Box 3: 6N + 6N + 6N = 18N Box 4: 7N - 3N = 4N - 4N = 0N
🗑
What is Newton’s Second Law of Motion?   Acceleration is produced when unbalanced forces act on a mass.
🗑
What is acceleration? What causes acceleration?   Acceleration is a change in speed OR direction of motion. An unbalanced force causes acceleration.
🗑
What is Newton’s Third Law of Motion?   For every action, there is an equal, but opposite reaction.
🗑
A basketball hits the floor with a force of 50N. What is the force and direction exerted by the floor on the ball?   The floor hits back with a force up 50N but the direction is changed to upwards because of Newton’s Third Law.
🗑
What forces cause a rollerskater to move?   A push off the ground backwards makes the wheels on a rollerskater to move.
