Adding Fractions | must have a common denominator. Once there is a common denominator, add the numerators and keep the denominator the same.

Subtracting Fractions | must have a common denominator. Once there is a common denominator, subtract the numerators and keep the denominator the same.

Multiplying Fractions | multiply straight across (multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators)

Dividing Fractions | multiply by the reciprocal (flip the second and multiply!)

Reciprocal | the fraction flipped upside down; the reciprocal of a number is 1 divided by the number

Square Root ("radical") | a number that produces a given number when multiplied by itself. For example, the square root of 25 is 5 because 5 x 5 = 25

Cube Root | a number that produces a given number when multiplied by itself three times. For example, the cube root of 27 is 3 because 3 x 3 x 3 = 27

Rational Number | A number that can be written as a fraction. When written as a decimal, it terminates (ends) or repeats.

Irrational Number | A number that cannot be written as a fraction. As a decimal, it never ends AND never repeats.
