---|---|---|---|---|---|
factor | Factors are numbers you can multiply together to get another number: Example: 2 and 3 are Factors of 6, because 2 × 3 = 6.
🗑
variable | A symbol for a number we don't know yet.
🗑
constant | In Algebra, a Constant is a number on its own, or sometimes a letter such as a, b or c to stand for a fixed number. Example: in "x + 5 = 9", 5 and 9 are
🗑
base | The number that is going to be raised to a power.
Example: in 82, 8 is the base
🗑
exponent | The Exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in a multiplication. It is written as a small number to the right and above the base number. In this example: 8 2 = 8 ×
🗑
perfect square | The number that is going to be raised to a power.
Example: in 82, 8 is the base

PEMDAS |
🗑
algebraic expression | can contain at least one variable and at least one operation...For example, n+2 represents the sum of an unknown number and two.
🗑
order of Operations | Order of operations tells us what order we are supposed to do things in a math problem. For example, what's the answer to this? 4 + 10 x 2 Do we do the 4 + 10 first? Or the 10 x 2 first?
Here is the official order of operations:
(1) Parenthesis
🗑
Numerical Expressions | An expression that has a number in it
🗑
coeffecient | A Coefficient is a number used to multiply a variable (4x means 4 times x, so 4 is a coefficient)
Sometimes a letter stands in for the number:
Example: ax2 + bx + c
x is a variable
a and b are coefficients
c is a constant
🗑
term | A Term is either a single number or a variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together.
🗑
expression | An Expression is a group of terms (the terms are separated by + or − signs)
🗑
equation | That equation says: what is on the left (x + 2) is equal to what is on the right (6)
So an equation is like a statement "this equals that"
