Answer
Can elements be separated into simpler substances?   No. Elements always stay as they are.
🗑
What are compounds made up of?   Two or more elements.
🗑
Can a compound be separated chemically or physically?   A compound can only be separated chemically. A compound has a chemical formula and it always made in a specific ratio.
🗑
What is a mixture made up of?   Two or more substances.
🗑
Can a mixture be separated physically or chemically?   A mixture can be separated physically and has no chemical change.
🗑
What is a heterogeneous mixture?   In a heterogeneous mixture, you can see all the parts. A heterogeneous mixture is not completely combined. ex. italian dressing, chocolate chip pancakes
🗑
What is a homogeneous mixture?   In a homogeneous mixture, you cannot see all the parts. A homogeneous mixture is completely mixed and appears the same throughout. ex. saltwater, baked cake
🗑
What is a physical change?   happens when matter changes size, shape, or form ex. water boiling (liquid to gas)
🗑
What is a chemical change?   any change that results in the creation of a new chemical substance
🗑
What is density?   mass/volume substances that are denser contain more matter in a certain volume
🗑
What is an example of density?   Lead is very dense while aluminium is not
🗑
What is an example of a chemical change?   baking soda and vinegar reacting to create foam
🗑
What is matter?   anything that has mass and takes up space
🗑
What is an atom?   an atom is composed of matter; the smallest part of an element
🗑
What are protons, electrons and neutrons?   protons: positively charged particles within the atom neutrons: neutrally charged particles within the atom electrons: negatively charged particles within the atom
