Relation   A pairing of numbers. It is often written as a set of ordered pairs.

Range   The set of the y-values of the relation (input)

Domain   The set of the x-values of the relation (output)

Function   A relation where every domain value is mapped to only one range value.

Independent Variable   Sometimes called the "control" variable. This variable changes independently from the dependent variable (the x-variable)

Dependent Variable   This variable depends on the independent variable in order to change (the y-variable)

Absolute Value of a Number   The distance that a number is away from zero on the number line.

Direct Variation   A relationship between two variable quantities that have the same constant ratio.

Slope   A measure of "steepness". It is measured by taking the ratio of the change in y and the change of x between two points.
