---|---|---|---|---|---|
Acid | Turns blue litmus red. Sour taste. pH of 0 to 6. Form hydrogen ions (H+) in water solution. ex: vinegar, citrus fruits, hydrochloric acid. Always produce water and a salt when they react with bases.
🗑

Base | Turns red litmus blue. Bitter taste. pH of 8 to 14. Form hydroxide ions (OH-) in water solution. ex: many soaps, Tums and other antacids, baking soda. Always produce water and a salt when they react with acids.
🗑
Indicator | a substance that changes color in the presence of an acid and a base
🗑
Corrosive | destroys and damages other substances with which it comes into contact.
🗑
Hydrogen Ion | the positively charged ion of hydrogen (H+) formed in all aqueous solutions (something mixed with water) of acids.
🗑
Hydroxide Ion | the negatively charged ion of hydroxide (OH-) formed in all aqueous solutions (something mixed with water) of bases.
🗑
pH scale | A scale that measures the concentration of hydrogen ions in a substance. (percent hydrogen)
🗑
Neutralization | A reaction between an acid and a base that produces water and a salt.
🗑
Salt | salts are ionic compounds that are produced from the neutralization reaction of an acid and a base.
