Question
Answer
The metals are to the ___________ of the stair step.   left
🗑
The nonmetals are to the ___________ of the stair step.   right
🗑
In general, when a metal bonds with a nonmetal, it forms what type of bond?   ionic
🗑
In general, when a nonmetal bonds with a nonmetal, it forms what type of bond?   covalent
🗑
If you have both, metal bonding with nonmetal and nonmetal bonding with metal, it forms what type of bond?   polyatomic ion
🗑
What do families or groups tell us about the element?   The number of valence electrons
🗑
What are valence electrons?   The number of electrons in the outer shell
🗑
What do periods tell us about the element?   The number of shells
🗑
Where are families or groups on the periodic table?   Columns
🗑
Where are the periods located on the periodic table?   Rows
🗑
What is a covalent bond?   when atoms share electrons
🗑
What is an ionic bond?   a bond that is created from the transfer of one or more electrons from one atom over to the next atom
🗑
What is a polyatomic ion bond?   A compound that has both ionic and covalent bonds
🗑
Why are noble gases nonreactive?   They are stable.
🗑
What does the atom need in order for it to be stable?   a full outer shell
🗑
Know how to identify the number of elements in a compound.   count the number of capital letters
🗑
Know how to identify the number of atoms in a compound.   refer to page 47 and 59
🗑
Know how to write formulas   Remember that + means the element wants to give an electron(s) and - means the element wants to take an electron(s) refer to page 67
🗑
The Halogen is really reactive to what other family? Explain.   The halogen family is reactive with the alkali metals. This is because the Halogen family wants to take an electron and the Alkali metals want to give an electron.
🗑
What is always true about chemical changes?   Something new is being formed by bonds being formed or broken.
🗑
What are clues to a chemical change?   (1) Drastic color change (2) Gas given off (3) Precipitate formed (4) Energy change
🗑
What does exothermic mean?   chemicals warming
🗑
What does endothermic mean?   chemicals cooling
🗑
Be able to draw a model of an atom using Bohr's model   refer to page 50-51
🗑
How many electrons can the first shell hold? second shell? third shell?   The first shell can hold 2 electrons, the second shell can hold 8 electrons, and the third shell can hold 8 electrons. Remember that an element can have more shells, but we are only looking at those that have up to three shells.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
