Kinetics and equilibria

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Activation energy   Is the minimum amount of kinetic energy particles need to start the reaction
🗑
Rate of reaction   the change in concentration of a substance in unit time
🗑
Le Chatelier's Principle   If any factor that affects equilibrium is changed, the position of equilibrium will shift to oppose the change.
🗑
Catalyst   Is a substance which speeds up the rate of reaction but remains chemically unchanged. They provide an alternative route which has a lower activation energy
🗑
Dynamic equilibrium   occurs when forward and backward reactions are occurring at equal rates. The concentrations of reactants and products stays constant and the reaction is continuous.
🗑
Temperature increase   If temperature is increased the equilibrium will shift to oppose this and move in the endothermic direction to try and reduce the temperature by absorbing heat.
🗑
Temperature decrease   the equilibrium will shift to oppose this and move in the exothermic direction to try and increase the temperature by giving out heat.
🗑
The Maxwell-Boltzmann energy distribution   shows the spread of energies that molecules of a gas or liquid have at a particular temperature
🗑
Catalysts do not affect   the position of equilibrium
🗑
Effect of catalysts on Maxwell-boltzmann   If the activation energy is lower, more particles will have energy > EA,so the reaction will be faster
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
