Who was Democritus and what did he do?   He was a Greek philosopher who theorized that all matter was made of invisible particles that today are called atoms.

What was Democritus' theory?   Matter cannot be divided into smaller and smaller pieces forever. Eventually the smallest possible piece will be obtained. This piece will be invisible.

Who was John Dalton and what did he do?   He was a British Chemist and teacher, he did studies and experiments in weather, colorblindness, and gases.

What did John Dalton notice and theorize?   He noticed that elements combine in specific proportions to form compounds, and theorized that their atoms combine at the same proportions.
