diatomic molecule   A molecule composed of two atoms of the same element.

halogen family   Elements in family or group #17 in the periodic table. They are the most reactive group of nonmetals in the table.

metalloid/semimetal   An element that has some properties of metals and some properties of nonmetals.

noble gas/inert gas   An element in family or group 18 of the periodic table. They are very non-reactive.

nonmetal   Elements that have properties that are the opposite properties of metals (ie. poor conductors of heat & electricity.

semiconductor   An element that can conduct electricity under certain conditions.  
🗑
nuclear fusion   The process in which smaller nuclei combine into larger nuclei, forming heavier elements. This process occurs naturally on the Sun.

plasma   A state of matter in which atoms are stripped of their electrons and the nuclei are packed close together. It is the most abundant form of matter in the universe.

supernova   An explosion of a massive star, reaching temperatures of 1 billion degrees celcius.
