What is the definition of First Ionisation energy? | The amount of energy required to remove one electron from each atom, in one mole of gaseous atoms, to form one mole of +1 ions.
🗑
What are the three factors affecting Ionisation energy? | Nuclear charge, Electron shielding and Atomic Radius
🗑
How does Nuclear charge affect Ionisation Energy? | As the proton number increases, the greater the nuclear charge, the greater the attraction
🗑
How does Electron Shielding affect Ionisation Energy? | The more shells, the inner shells repel the outer shells, making it easier to remove electrons
🗑
How does Atomic Radius affect Ionisation energy? | Further from the nucleus, means there is less attraction between the protons and electrons
🗑
Why do successive ionisation energies increase slightly? | Because as electrons are removed from the atom, the atom get slightly smaller, because there is stronger attraction from the nucleus, and the electrons are pulled in?
