Parameter   a numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a population

Statistic   a numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a sample

Quantitative Data   It is also known as numerical data; consists of numbers representing counts or measurements. Ex: ages of respondents or weights of supermodels

Categorical Data   It is also known as qualitative or attribute data. Consists of names or labels (representing categories). Ex: gender or professional athletes or numbers on jerseys.

Discrete Data   Result when the number of a possible values is either a finite number or a 'countable' number. Ex: the number of eggs that a hen lays.

Continuous Data   It is also known as numerical data. Result from infinitely many possible values that correspond to some continous scale that covers range of values without gaps, interruptions, or jumps. Ex: The amount of mile that a cow produces; e.g. 2.32413425.
