Question
Answer
Describe the reaction of Na with Water:   2Na + 2H2O --> 2NaOH + H2. The reaction is vigorous as the metal dissolves and Hydrogen Gas is violents released.
🗑
Describe the reaction of Cold water with Mg:   Slow reaction forming: Mg + 2H2O --> Mg(OH)2 + H2
🗑
Describe the reaction of Steam with Mg:   Quick reaction: Mg + H2O(g) ---> MgO + H2
🗑
Write the formula for the Oxides of Period 3 elements and their oxidation states:   Na2O (+1) : MgO (+2) : Al2O3 (+3) : SiO2 (+4) : P4O10 (+5) : SO2 (+4).
🗑
Describe the Reaction of Na With Oxygen:   Burns brightly with a Yellow Flame.
🗑
Describe the Reaction of Mg with Oxygen:   Burns brightly with a white flame.
🗑
Describe the Reaction of Al with Oxygen:   Al is heated first, then burns bright with white flame.
🗑
Describe the Reaction of Si with Oxygen:   The Si is heated alot.
🗑
Describe the Reaction of P with Oxygen:   Red P needs to be heated first then burns with White flame, White P ignites spontaneously with air with white flame.
🗑
Describe the Reaction of S with Oxygen:   Preheated then burns brightly with BLUE flame.
🗑
Write the formula for the substance formed when H2O reacts with the oxides from Period 3:   2Na+ + 2OH- : Mg(OH)2 --> Mg2+ + 2OH- : H3PO4 --> H2PO4- + H+ : H2SO3 ---> HSO3- + H+ --> H2SO4 ---> H+ + HSO4-
🗑
What is the Ion responsible for the alkiline solutions formed when the metal oxides react with water?   They contain the O2- ion which is highly Basic and will readily accept H+ ions.
🗑
