Chem Test Ch 9

TermDefinition
mole ratio the ratio of moles of one substance to moles of another substance in a balanced chemical equation
stoichiometry the process of using a balanced chemical equation to determine the relative masses of reactants and products involved in a reaction
stoichiometric mixture a mixture that contains the relative amounts of reactants that matches the numbers in the balanced equation
limiting reactant the reactant that is completely used up when a reaction is run to completion
limiting reagent MEANS LIMITING REACTANT
theoretical yield the maximum amount of a given product that can be formed when the limiting reactant is completely consumed
percent yield the actual yield of a product as the percentage of the theoretical yield
actual yield amount of product recovered when the reaction is performed in the laboratory
excess reactant a quantity of a reactant that is present in sufficient quantity such that some remains after the reaction is complete
coefficients reveal the mole ratios of the substance in a balanced equation
balanced chemical equation verifies the law of conservation of matter
percent yield equation actual yield/theoretical yield x100
