expressive face | protrays moment-to-moment thoughts, feelings & needs. Can tell even if pt doesnt want others to know |
impassive face | emotionless deadpan expression similar to a mask |
confusing face | expression that is the opposite of what the pt wants to convey. |
body language | gestures, postures, movement, & body positions |
body position | crossed legs or arms that are crossed may threaten the pt who is trying to express there feelings. |
vocal cues | voive volume, tone, pitch, intensity, emphasis, speed, & pauses augment senders message. loudness indicates anger, fear, happiness, or deafness |
nondirective role | using broad openings & open ended questions to collect info & help pt ID & discuss topic of concern |
directive role | direct, yes/no questions & using problem-solving to hlep with present here-&-now issues |
assertive communication | ability to express positive/negative ideas & feelings in an open, honest, & direct way |
