Physical Properties | The characteristics of a subtance that can be observed or measured without changing the substance. |
Density | The concentration of matter in an object. |
Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
Mass | The amount of matter in an object. |
Weight | A measure of the pull of gravity on an object. |
Volume | The amount of space that an object takes up. |
Mixture | A combination of two or more different kinds of matter each of which keeps it's own physical properties. |
Solution | A type of mixture in which particles of the two substances are evenly mixed. They can't be separated. |
Compound | A substance made of the atoms of two or more different elements. |
Solubility | The ability of one substance to be dissolved in another substance. |
Solid | The state of matter that has a definite shape and volume. |
Liquid | The state of matter that has a definite volume but no definite shape. |
Gas | The state of matter that doen not have a definite shape or volume. |
Evaporation | The process by which a liquid changes into a gas. |
Condensation | The process by which a gas changes back into a liquid. |
Reactivity | The ability of a substance to go through a chemical change. |
Combustibility | The chemical property of being able to burn. |
Element | A substance made up of only one kind of atom. |
Atom | The smallest unit of an element that has all the properties of that element. |
