Monologue | A long speech by a single character |
Monotone | Literally "one-tone", a boring vocal delivery with no emotion or change in pitch, pacing, or emphasis |
Gibberish | An expressive language of sounds and gestures used in acting |
Five W's | The who, what, where, when, and why of any situation, scene or play. |
Articulation- | Clearly enunciating vowel and consonant sounds for clarity of speech |
Projection | Speaking loudly enough(without yelling)for the entire audience to hear |
Pitch | The highness or lowness of the voice |
Range | The vocal variety of pitches for an actor, ranging from low to high. |
Lines | The dialogue for the play; the words the actors say in a performance |
Role | A part in the play; the character played by an actor |
Stage | The area where the action of a play takes place; to "stage" a play means to rehearse and then perform it. |
Character | A person in a play, or the personality of that person |
Personification | Giving human characteristics to a nonhuman object or animal |
Rehearsal | Practicing a piece of theatre; preparing for a perfomance |
Act | One of the major sections of a play or opera |
Scenes | The smaller units of a play like chapters are to a book. |
Duet | A work written to be spoken by two people |
Motivation | The reason why a character is doing or saying something |
Memorization | The acting skill of remembering where and how to perform rehearsed movements, actions, and dialogue |
Blocking | The planning and working out of the actors' stage movements |
Floor plan | A line drawing of a stage set as seen from above showing the placement on the stage floor of the scenic elements |
