Question | Answer |
Density | The degree of compactness of a substance. Cold air is more dense than warm air. |
Humidity | A quantity representing the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere or a gas. Humid air is more moist than dry air. |
Condensation | Water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it. The process of becoming more dense, in particular. Condensation is when rain comes. |
Low Pressure | A low-pressure area, or low, is a region where the atmospheric pressure at sea level is lower than that of surrounding locations. Low pressure is often warm. |
High Pressure | A high-pressure area is a region where the atmospheric pressure at the surface of the planet is greater than its surrounding environment. High Pressure areas are often cold. |
Cold Front | The boundary of an advancing mass of cold air. Colds fronts generally bring a short period of heavy rain, and later bring cold weather. |
Warm Front | The boundary of an advancing mass of warm air, in particular the leading edge of the warm sector of a low-pressure system. Warm fronts generally bring warm, moist, rainy days. |
Stationary Front | A stationary front is a boundary between two different air masses, neither of which is strong enough to replace the other. |
Occluded Front | a composite front formed when a cold front overtakes a warm front and forces it aloft. |
Weather Map | a map showing the principal meteorological elements at a given time and over an extended region. |
Isobar | A line on a map connecting points having the same atmospheric pressure at a given time or on average over a given period. |
