Question | Answer |
Cell Wall | A rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms. A cell wall helps protect and support the cell. |
Cell Membrane | The cell membrane controls what substances come into and out of the cell. Example: Your hand. It is basically a protective screen for cells. |
Nucleus | The nucleus controls all the cells. Kind of like a control center. It is as important to a cell as the brain is to us. |
Cytoplasm | The cytoplasm is the region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It's a gel-like fluid. |
Mitochondria | The mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell. They convert energy into food molecules. |
Endoplasmic Reticulum | The endoplasmic reticulum carries proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to the other. |
Ribosomes | Ribosomes float in the cytoplasm. They produce proteins. |
Golgi Body | Golgi Bodies are the mail room of a cell. They receive proteins and other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum and sends them to other parts of the cell. |
Chloroplasts | Chloroplasts take energy from the sun and use it to produce food for the cell. They are found in the cytoplasm. |
Vacuole | Vacuoles are found in the cytoplasm. They are like the storage areas for the cells. |
Lysosomes | Lysosomes are small, round structures that contain chemicals that break down certain materials in the cell. |
