Word | Definition |
Antigen | Is a protein, toxin, bacterium, or other substance that stimulates an immune response. EXAMPLES of antigens include microorganisms(such as bacteria,fungi,parasites,and viruses) and chemicals. |
Antibody | Is a type of protein found in blood or other bodily fluids. The body's immune system produces antibodies when it detects harmful substances called antigens. In blood typing antibodies are called aggutinins. |
Genotype | Is the genetic constitution of a cell, an individual. Ex: the specific allele makeup of the individual. |
Phenotype | The observable physical or biochemical characteristics of an organism, as determined by both genetic makeup and environmental influences. |
Allele | One member of a pair or series of genes that occupy a specific position on a specific chromosome. |
Chromosomes | A thread-like linear strand of DNA and associated proteins in the nucleus of Eukaryotic cells that carries the genes and functions in the transmission of hereditary information. |
Eukaryotic Cell | Has a nucleus, which contains the cell's chromosomes. Plants, animals, and fungi have Eukaryotic cells. |
