Question | Answer |
Conduction | the transfer of heat energy into solids |
Convection | the transfer of heat energy in fluids |
Diffraction | the spreading out of light or sound waves after passing through an opening |
Doppler Effect | the apparent change in frequency or waves emitted by an object moving toward or away from an observer |
Electromagnetic Wave | a traveling disturbance in the electric or magnetic fields that permeate space |
Fission | process by which a nucleus splits into two or more fragments and releases neutrons and energy |
Fusion | the process in which light nuceli combine at extremely high temperatures, forming heavier nuceli and energy |
Pitch | a measure of how high or low a sound is percieved to be depending on the frequency of the sound wave |
Amplitude | the maximum distance that the particle of a wave's medium vibrate from their rest position |
Reflection | the bouncing back of a ray of light, sound or heat when the ray hits a surface that it does not go through |
Refraction | the bending of a wavefront as the wavefront passes between two substances in which the speed of the wave differs |
Radiation | the energy that is transfered as electromagnetic waves such as visible light and infrared light |
Mechanical wave | a wave that requires a medium through which to travel |
Interference | the combination of two or more waves that result in a single wave |
Specific heat | the quantity of heat required to raise a unit mass of homogeneous material 1K or 1C in a specified way givenconstant pressure and volume |
Wavelength | the distance from any point on a wave to an identical point on the next wave |
Frequency | the number of cycles or vibrations per unit of time; also the number of waves produced in a given amount of time |
Doppler Effect | the observed change in the frequency of a wave when the source or observer is moving |
Electromagnetic wave | a wave that consisit of oscillating electric and magnetic fields, which radiate outward at the speed of light |
Speed | the distance traveled divided by the time interval during which the motion occurred |
