Acid Etchant Phosphoric acid to create the rough surface necessary for mechanical and micromechanical bonding.
Desiccation The removal of all moisture from an area, the process of drying out.
Eugenol Contains soothing qualities and has a pleasant, spicy, clove-like taste.
Sedative A materal that has a soothing effect on the patient.
Smear Layer A very thin layer of debris on newly prepared dentin.
Traumatic occlusion Teeth not properly occluding, causing undo pressure on a particular tooth making the pulp feel bruised.
Chemically cured Process of mixing two materials together to create a chemical reaction that makes a material harden or set.
Exothermic reaction A chemical reaction that gives off heat.
Homogenous The characteristic of having a uniform structure or composition throughout.
Light cured Process of using a high-intensity light to make a material harden or set.
Luting agent A viscous material placed into a dental prosthesis that attaches the prosthesis firmly to the tooth by means of a chemical reaction.
Bite registration A record of how the patient's maxillary and mandibular arches occlude.
Cast model A gypsum replica of the mouth made from an impressionof a patient's mouth.
Frenula Folds of tissue connecting the cheeks and lips to the alveolar mucosa.
Hydrophilic A tendency toward compatibility with water or complete wetting ability.
Hydrophobic A tendency away from water, an aversion to it, and less wetting ability.
