PROSTHETIC GAIT DEVIATION | CAUSES |
TERMINAL SWING IMPACT | insufficient knee friction, too much tension in the extension aid, pt feels that the knee will buckle, forcefull knee flexion |
FOOT ROTATION AT HEEL STRIKE | prosthetic foot is malaligned, stiff heel cushion, stiff plantar flexion bumper |
SWING PHASE WHIPS | socket is rotated, knee bolt is rotated, foot is malaligned |
FOOT SLAP | heel cushion too soft, PF bumper too soft, |
UNEVEN STEP LENGTH | socket discomfort or poor alignment, hip flexion contracture, hip instability |
HIGH HEEL RISE | inadequate knee friction, too little tension in the extension aid |
LUMBAR LORDOSIS DURING STANCE | insufficient support from anterior or posterior walls, painful ischial weight bearing, hip flexion contracture, weak hip extensors or abdominals |
FORWARD FLEXION DURING STANCE | unstable knee unit, short ambulatory aids, hip flexion contracture |
LATERAL TRUNK BENDING DURING STANCE | low lateral wall, short prosthesis, high medial wall, weak abductors, abductor contracture, hip pain, short amputation limb |
VAULTING - RISE UP ON SOUND LIMB | too long prosthesis, inadequate suspension, socket too small, prosthetic foot placed in too much PF, too little knee flexion |
ABDUCTED GAIT | crotch or medial wall discomfort, long prosthesis, low lateral wall or malalignment, tight hip abductors |
CIRCUMDUCTION | long prosthesis, locked knee, small or loose socket, inadequate suspension, foot is plantarflexed, abduction contracture, poor hip control |
