What is the definition of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?	A condition that results in the compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel of the wrist. The reults are numbness and tingling in the lateral 3 1/2 digits.
What is a distinguishing factor of CTS?	Nocturnal symptoms.
What structures pass through the carpal tunnel?	- 4 tendons of the flexor digitorum profundous- Median nerve- 4 tendons of the flexor digitorum superficialis- Flexor digitorum longus tendon
Describe the path of the median nerve?	Comes out of the brachial plexus and runs down the arm and forearm. Starting under the clavical, pec minor and runs between the biceps and brachialis muscle. Innervates the pronator teres and flexors before entering the carpal tunnel.
What are causes of CTS?	- Increase in the size of contents through the carpal tunnel.- decrease in canal space (ganglia, cysts).- Acute cause such as infection, trauma, rheumatoid arthritis, repetitive wrist actions.
What orthopedic test can be used to prove CTS?	-Phelens test/ reverse phelens test (prayer pose) for one minute.
