Neutron | A neutron is a subatomic particle located inside the nucleus of an atom. It has 0 charge, its neutral. Weight = 1. |
Proton | A proton is a subatomic particle located inside the nucleus of an atom. It is positively charged (+). Weight = 1 |
Electron | An electron is a subatomic particle outside the nucleus, orbiting in energy levels/electron shells. It is negatively charged (-). It is very small and light and weight = 0, almost nothing. It is able to be lost or gained during a chemical reaction. |
Nucleus | The nucleus is a dense core in the center of the atom. It is dense because it contains all the mass of the atom in a small space. It contains protons and neutrons and is positively charged because of protons. It is the weight of the atom. |
Electron Shell | The electron shell has a maximum capacity. The 1st shell can hold 2 electrons, 2nd shell can hold 8 electrons and the 3rd shell can hold 8 electrons. |
Atom Electrical Charge | The atom of the element contains equal numbers of protons and electrons and so have no overall charge |
Subatomic Particles | Particles which make up an atom (protons, neutrons, electrons) are called subatomic particles. |
Atomic Arrangement | - electrons come in pairs - go in quadrants |
