Term | Definition |
Cold Front | When a cool air mass pushes under to replace a warmer air mass at ground level |
Warm Front | When a warm air mass rises over to replace a cooler air mass |
Stationary Front | The boundary between two air masses, where neither air mass can overtake the other |
Occluded Front | When a cold front overtakes a warm front |
Doppler Radar | A radar tracking system using the Doppler effect to determine the location and velocity of a storm, clouds, precipitation, etc. |
Groundwater | The water that is below the surface of the ground that fills porous rock or soil. |
Sleet | Raindrops that are smaller than 5 millimeters in diameter that freeze on their way to the ground. |
Hail | Round pellets of ice that are larger than 5 millimeters in diameter that form during circulating through cool areas of cumulonimbus clouds |
Weather | the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. |
Dew Point | The temperature at which condensation begins |
