Accuracy | the extent to which a measured value agrees with the standard value,hitting the target |
Analyze | to examine, compare and contrast, looking for patterns and trends |
Bias | adding personal ideas or thoughts to an observation or conclusion |
Classification | organization of organisms into categories |
Conclusion | the results of an experiment |
Control | variable that stays the same |
Dependent/Response Variable | the variable that is being measured, that is changed IN RESPONSE TO another variable |
Experimental Data | facts and observations that are gathered and recorded about a problem |
Fact | that stated is to be TRUE |
Hypothesis | an educated guess, a possible explanation for a problem or question |
Independent/Manipulated Variable | the variable that is changed by the EXPERIMENTER |
Inferences | to conclude by reasoning from something known or assumed |
Law | the most acceptable explanation for a concept, supported by very CONSISTENT experimentation |
Materials | the supplies required to carry out an experiment |
Mean | the average of a set of numbers |
Median | arranging the numbers from least to greatest and finding the middle number |
Mode | the most frequently occurring number in a set |
Metrics | a measuring system used worldwide |
Opinion | a belief not based on certainty |
Observations | noting and recording facts |
Procedure | the steps a scientist takes in order to complete an experiment |
Qualitative Observations | observations made by the senses |
Quantitative Observations | observations that are made using numbers |
Sample Size | a certain portion of something, the greater the size, the more valid your data will be |
Science | the body of knowledge that exists about the world and the method used to obtain it |
Scientific Investigation | series of steps that scientists use to investigate problems |
Theory | well tested hypotheses supported by lots of evidence |
Precision | how exact something is on a consistent basis |
