Term | Definition |
Prophase | Before mitosis begins, the cell is copied and the nuclear membrane dissapears. |
Metaphase | The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. |
Anaphase | The chromosomes seperate from their partners and go to opposite ends of the cell. |
Telophase/cytokinesis | The cell splits in half to make two identical cells with 46 chromosomes. |
Meiosis | Sexual reproduction that produces haploid cells. |
Gametes/haploid cells | Haploid cells have half the normal number of chromosomes. |
Diploid cells | Diploid cells have the whole number of chromosomes. |
Homologs | Two chromosomes in a pair, one from your mom and one from your dad. |
Egg cell | Female reproductive cell (half of the chromosomes) |
Sperm cell | Male reproductive cell (Half the chromosomes) |
