Question | Answer |
What is a free body diagram? | All forces acting on an object. |
4 types of friction? | Sliding, Rolling, Fluid, Static. |
unbalanced forces | an object that is moving |
balanced forces | an object that is still |
force | power applied to an object (something that makes motion) |
newton | metric unit for weight (N) |
tension | pulling force |
compression | pushing force |
vector | an arrow with the force moving |
net force | total amount of force used |
newton's second force | acceleration applied to an object force= mass *acceleration |
newton's first force | an object will stay still until acted upon |
newton's third law | with an action comes an opposite reaction |
increasing friction | rough surfaces are increasing friction |
friction | resistance of an object that encounters when 2 objects are moving over another |
decreasing friction | smoother surfaces |
rolling forces | the friction between rolling object and the surface it rolls on. ~only a small point of contact(wheel will roll on contact) |
static forces | friction between 2 surfaces that are not moving past each other. |
sliding | the force that opposes the motion of 2 surfaces sliding past each other. |
fluid forces | when an object is moving through liquid or gases |
