autonomy | honor wishes of competent individuals |
beneficence | act for benefit of others |
confidentiality | keeping client info. within appropriate limits |
duty | obligations to others in society |
fidelity | moral duty to keep commitments that have been promised |
informed consent | signed document giving permission to render treatment prior to initiation of treatment |
justice | quality of being just, fair; righteousness |
malpractice | failure to exercise skills that would normally be exercised by other members of the profession with similar skills & training |
negligence | failure to do that reasonable/prudent person would have done in same/similar circumstances for a given situation |
nonmaleficence | do no harm |
paternalism | someone fails to recognize another's rights & autonomy |
rights | ability to take advantage of a moral entitlement to do something or not to do something |
risk management | the i.d., analysis, & eval. of risks & selection of most advantageous method for treating them |
veracity | tell the truth |
