classical conditioning | behvavior that occurs as an automatic response to a stimulus - respondent behavior |
unconditioned stimulus (UCS) | stimulus that automatically triggers a response - you don't need to be trained to react |
unconditioned response (UCR) | response that is automatically triggered and needs no training |
neutral stimulus (NS) | stimulus that orignially has nothing to do with a response |
conditioned stimulus (CS) | stimulus that used to be neutral, and have nothing to do with a response, but because it is paired with the UCS now it gets a response |
conditioned response (CR) | the learned reponse to a previously neutral stimulus |
acquisition | the initial stage in classical conditioning when you associate a neutral stimulus and get a response from it |
extinction | the diminishing or dying out of a response |
spontaneous recovery | the reappearance of a distinguished response |
generalization | when one gets the same response from a similar stimuli |
discrimination | when one distinguishes between similar stimuli |
taste aversion | as a result of classical conditioning, you have paired the stimulus with something unpleasant (ex: raw oysters w/ getting sick; eating them after the fact makes you feel ill) |
