Premises | the claims that give reasons in support of the conclusion |
Tautology | a claim that is necessarily true |
Contingent | a claim whose truth value depends on evidence |
Cogent argument/good argument | -3 criteria of a cogent argument: 1. Believe premises 2. All the relevant information has to be considered 3. The premises must lead to conclusion |
Bad argument/fallacious argument | error in our reasoning-fallacy |
Deductive argument | is an argument where if the premises are true, the conclusion must be true |
Inductive argument | is an argument where if the premises are true the conclusion is, at best, probably true |
