Term | Definition |
cell | The smallest unit that can perform all life processes and contains all of the materials necessary for life. |
stimulus | Anything in the environment that causes a response or change in an organism. |
homeostasis | The process of an organism maintaining a constant and stable internal state in a changing environment. |
metabolism | The total of all chemical activities that an organism performs. |
proteins | One of the 5 chemical building blocks of cells that are made up of amino acid subunits and are used to build cells and cellular structures. |
photosynthesis | The process by which plants make their own food from carbon dioxide, water, and light energy. |
chlorophyll | The green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy. |
glucose | The carbohydrate produced from carbon dioxide and water during photosynthesis. |
cellular respiration | The process by which cells use oxygen to release energy from food. |
stoma | An opening in a leaf’s epidermis (outer layer) through which gas exchange occurs. |
