Term | Definition |
Chemical change | A change in a substance resulting in an entirely different substance with different properties from the first |
Chemical property | A characteristic that gives a substance the ability to undergo a change that results in a new substance, example- flammability, reacting with oxygen, reacting with light, reacting with water |
Combustion | A chemical change, the process of burning, accompanied by the production of heat and light |
Corrosion | A chemical reaction when oxygen reacts with iron, corrosion produces iron oxide |
Flammability | How easily something will burn or ignite |
Rot | To become damaged, weakened, or useless because of decay |
Rust | Red or brown oxide coating on iron or steel caused by the action of oxygen and moisture |
Tarnishing | Discoloration of metal surface caused by oxidation |
Precipitate | Solid produced in a chemical reaction |
