Classification | the division of organisms into groups, or classes, based on specific characteristics |
Taxonomy | the science of describing, naming, and classifying organisms |
Dichotomous Key | an aid that is used to identify organisms and that consists of the answers to a series of questions |
Archaea (domain) | made up of prokaryotes, are single-celled, no nucleus, can thrive in extreme environments and regular environments |
Bacteria (domain) ex. E-coli | Made up of prokaryotes, found in soil/water/human body/etc...., can be both good or bad |
Eukarya (domain) ex. humans | have nucleus, membrane-bound organelles, 4 kingdoms are made from this~Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia |
Protista (kingdom) ex. slime/ mold | single celled or simple-multi-celled, evolved from ancient bacteria, animal-like Protista is called Protozoans, plant-like Protista is called algae |
Fungi (kingdom) ex. mushrooms | Complex/multi-cellular organisms, don`t perform photosynthesis or eat other organisms~Decomposers |
Plantae (kingdom) ex. flowers, trees | plants, vary in size/form/ and structure, eukaryotic, have cell walls, use photosynthesis, other organisms can get nutrients by eating from the kingdom Plantae |
Animalia (kingdom) ex. humans, birds, dogs | animals/humans, complex/multicellular, don`t have cell walls, specialized sense organs, depend on other organisms for food |
