Term | Definition |
Body Tube | Connects the ocular lens to the rest of the microscope |
Arm | The place (besides the base) where we carry the microscope |
Coarse Adjustment Knob | Large knob; moves the stage up and down to bring the specimen into focus |
Switch | Turns the light source for the microscope on and off |
Nosepiece | Moveable; holds the objective lenses |
Fine Adjustment Knob | Small knob; makes tiny adjustments to sharpen the image |
Eyepiece | Contains the ocular lens; the part you look through |
Objectives | Three lenses that come in different powers (4X, 10X, and 40X) |
Stage Clips | Holds the slide in place |
Diaphragm | Adjusts the amount of light |
Aperture | The hole in the stage |
Stage | The flat surface where we place the slide |
Base | Supports the microscope; the bottom of the microscope |
Mirror or Light Source | Projects light upward through the diaphragm, aperture, specimen, and lenses |
